Chenab Valley Power Projects (CVPPPL) and Voith Hydro have signed a contract in Jammu, India, that includes the supply of four 250 MW Francis hydropower turbines and generators, together with auxiliary equipment, for the Pakal Dul hydropower plant, located in the state of Jammu & Kashmir. The 1000 MW project is of great national importance, intended as it is to provide benefits for the people living in the J & K region in terms of an improved power supply, employment generation and infrastructure creation.
The project will increase the footprint of Voith in the state of J&K. To date, Voith had led the consortium that delivered six units, each of 150 MW in two stages, at Baglihar hydropower plant for the state utility Jammu and Kashmir State Development Corporation.
Voith is also executing the Salal Runner replacement project for six units of 115 MW for National Hydro Electric Power Corporation. This project is being constructed by the CVPPPL (a joint venture company of NHPC, JKSPDC and PTC) on the Marusadar river, the main tributary of the Chenab river, and located at the village of Drangdhuran about 45 km from Kishtwar in Kishtwar district. This hydropower project will add needed capacity to power generation in this northern region, in particular for the remoter areas of Jammu & Kashmir state.
