The first contract is for a 6 MWe power plant to be supplied to RAK Power, a Bangladeshi company that supplies power to the local RAK Ceramics factory. The contract includes engineering services in addition to the supply of one Wärtsilä 18V34SG generating set and auxiliary equipment, and the plant is expected to be operational by the beginning of 2008.
Two contracts were also agreed with Malancha Holdings, a subsidiary company of United Group, for the supply of gas-fired engines, auxiliary equipment and engineering services to deliver electrical power to two power plants for the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones (EPZ) in Chittagong and Dhaka.
The Chittagong order consists of five Wärtsilä 20V34SG generating sets supplying a total of 43.6 MWe, while the Dhaka contract calls for four Wärtsilä 20V34SG engines supplying a total of 35 MWe of electrical power. Both plants are expected to be fully operational during the second quarter of 2008.
The intention is to ensure an uninterrupted power supply to the EPZs and the adjacent areas on the basis of need during peak and off-peak hours.
The total value of the three contracts is approximately €22.5 million.
