The Glasgow, UK, based engineering group Weir is to consolidate its operations by closing three non-core businesses – Tooling Products, G Perry, an automobile parts maker and nuclear engineering group Strachan and Henshawand – selling a fourth, Weir Systems. The announcement is part of a strategy to withdraw from all but its core business areas of pumps and valves. The company intends to expand its pumps and valves business and may spend up to $300 million acquiring a suitable complementary company.
