Wind energy development company Windforce has announced finalisation of an agreement to develop 600 MW of windpower projects in Sweden. This is on top of 800 MW the company has already committed to develop. The company will develop the projects jointly with the Swedish wind developer NordanVind Vindkraft AB, with Windforce taking title to the projects upon financial completion.

The sites for the new projects are in the northern region of Sweden and include both offshore and onshore schemes. A recent Swedish Department of Energy report called for the installation of between 3000 MW and 4000 MW of wind generating capacity over the next 10-15 years. The country also intends to introduce a green certificate trading system by January 2003, enabling green power generators more easily to exploit the renewable nature of their output for additional revenue.

The Swedish projects are due to be completed over the next two years.
