Wärtsilä has signed a contract with Bangladesh-based Summit Group to supply equipment totalling 300 MW for a power plant to be located in Gazipur. It will consist of eighteen Wärtsilä 46 engines operating on heavy fuel oil. The scope of supply is the engine sets along with auxiliaries.
This is a fast-track delivery to be fully completed in nine months. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered by November 2017 and the power plant is expected to be fully operational in March 2018.
The Bangladeshi economy, industries and population are growing and this growth puts strain on the power supply and creates a need for more reliable power generation that can be added to the national grid. Timing is also crucial as the new generation will further stabilise the power supply.
This is not the first sale of Wärtsilä engines to Summit. Earlier this year Previously this year a contract for 150 MW of power generators was signed with the company which with the new power plant amounts to a total of 450 MW in the area. With this new signing, Wärtsilä has an installed base of 3300 MW in Bangladesh.
