Technology group Wärtsilä has been awarded full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts for two power plants in Latin America worth a combined €190 million.

Under the contracts, Wärtsilä will build two plants, each comprising 11 Wärtsilä 50SG gas engines. It has also signed 10-year operation and maintenance agreements for the plants, which will operate “in flexible baseload mode”, the company said in a statement.

The fast-start flexibility of the two plants will enable the efficient integration of renewable energy in the grid, Wärtsilä added. It has not revealed the plant owner or the location of the facilities.

The two plants are expected to be operational at the end of 2021.
