Yorkshire Electricity has become the subject of financial speculation, with a possible bid from British Energy being mooted, following merger talks between American Electric Power, one of the regional electricity company’s owners, and Central and South West Corp, which owns the UK regional company Seeboard. The merger of the two US concerns would raise questions in the UK about the subsequent relationship between Seeboard and Yorkshire Electricity.

British Energy has so far declined to comment. However, the UK utility is the front runner to buy two nuclear power plants in the US owned by Niagara Mohawk.
