Despite a bid to recover millions of dollars in debts from consumers through the Zambian electricity authority’s (Zesco) programme of power cuts to non-payers, the government has overturned the decision.
Blaming inadequate billing and metering for the financial disarray, energy minister David Saviye said that the Zesco programme should be suspended and Zesco should repair its ineffective administration.
